Nursing Home Outreach
Living Purpose CDC has a burden for the maturing adult population. In America, there are over 2 million people living in care centers and an expected 50 million in less than 20 years will reside in these facilities. It is worthy to note, as many as 60% of these residents never have a friend or loved one to visit.
Using uplifting music and one-on-one interaction, it is our hope to encourage, strengthen, and boost the lives of those living in care centers in the San Fernando and Antelope Valleys.
According to the L.A. Times, in 2015, the Los Angeles County homeless population is approximately 44,359, up from 39,000, due in part to the increase in high rent, low wages, and extremely steep unemployment. This alarming number represents a 12% increase since 2013. Encampments and makeshift tents, seen in residential neighborhoods and near schools, are being used to supply the homeless with some form of shelter. Using our “Hot Shower/Hot Meal Program”, we warmly open our doors and invite the homeless and extend showers, clean clothes, and hot meals to them. To date, on a monthly-basis, we provide over 300 meals and 80 showers.
Juvenile Hall Outreach
Today, in America, more than 2.5 million juveniles are arrested yearly and 70% of juveniles convicted of crimes that have gone on to commit crimes again. With the U.S. prison population increasing 15x faster than the general population, the urgency for youth intervention has never been greater. To further these unforgiving statistics, a study revealed 94% of incarcerated youth has not ever had a positive adult male role model consistently present in their lives. Another study portrayed 84% of the boys who become serious juvenile offenders, have parents with criminal records. It is quite evident and frightening that at-risk young people are in dire straits, desperately needing healthy relationships with positively influential adults. Nurturing relationships, as a core principle for positive moral and spiritual development, Living Praise CDC fosters programs that include social counseling, entrepreneurial training, one-on-one mentoring, recovery, intellectual development and re-entry support for the juvenile youth locked up in detention centers with a goal to create and develop responsible, productive, intellectually-sound, taxpaying, law-abiding citizens of the community. Bus Pass/Token Distributions
In order to be successful, a fundamental principle that is basic in our everyday life is mobility, or simply, being able to move from point A to point B. We understand that transportation allows us in being able to have quality of life. Every Friday, one-way bus fare tokens are provided to allow the challenged transporter to get on a path to a consistent and reliable method of transportation. In addition, bus coupons for students K-12, college/vocational, senior, disabled, Medicare, regular rider/weekly/monthly, good for 6 months, are available.
Thanksgiving Day Outreach
Thanksgiving has always been a timeless tradition centered around family, love, and food. The homeless and underserved are made to feel right at home, a part of an extended family. At our host site, our Chatsworth campus serves as the backdrop, where the homeless can come and be made to feel right at home. We also set up a community mart to allow them to shop for everyday household necessities including clothes, shoes, and toiletries—free of charge.
Throughout the year, Living Purpose CDC sponsors a variety of toy drive opportunities to benefit homeless and underprivileged children at 3 different elementary schools in the Los Angeles County, San Fernando and Antelope Valleys. Partnering with Toys-4-Tots and the Marines every year enables us to cast a wide net to embrace those underserved families with Christmas gifts.
San Fernando Valley Rescue Mission Dinners Ministry
A powerful and productive off-chute, SFVRM Dinner Ministry creates an interactive and transparent atmosphere of family-oriented values that lead to communication and openness while sharing a meal and a word of encouragement. Members of Living Praise Christian Center, volunteer every first Friday of the month (excluding August and January) and provide and serve hot meals to the displaced, sometimes forgotten, and underserved residents of SFVRM.
Financial Peace University
When we fail to plan, we plan to fail. Having a plan for understanding what money is, how to acquire/use/save/spend it, and the roles our habits play as it pertains to money, is vitally important to the success of our everyday lives. Financial Peace University (FPU) has a comprehensive plan to outline money, its value and respective place in our world. This 7-week course study, offered during each and every summer at Living Praise Christian Church campuses in Palmdale and Chatsworth, helps to instruct those looking to handle money properly. Using instructional videos, class participation, and interactive small group activities, FPU presents practical and precise steps to get from where you currently are to where you desire to be. FPU will help show how to eliminate debt, manage your money, spend and save wisely, and much more.
